Upon invitation of Sandra Pohley accompagnied with some clarification about the expected tasks of the members in the network, I promised to try it out first being member of the network. I still doubt whether I could provide a substantial contribution to the discussions ongoing in this network of excellent international experts. In any case after a period of looking around I will reconsider my membership.
I am working at the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment as policy advisor and expert in the Chemical Division of Department of Environment. My primary responsibility was co-ordinating for the last 20 years the Dutch contribution to the European chemicals management policy and the implementation of the EU chemicals legislation. My last activity was active involvement as part-time secondment at the European Commission in drafting the REACH proposal, after official publication joining the Dutch negotiation team for discussion in the Council, and in the national implementation of REACH after adoption and publication.
My expertise is the European arena of chemicals management policy, implementing the chemicals legislation nationally and in the EU, and involved in setting up the practical arrangements for the implemenation of REACH.
My interests are (a) the development of practical tools to implement specific tasks of REACH, such as chemical safety assessment and use of exposure scenarios, and (b) scientific evaluation models to be used by the European Chemicals Agency and the competent authorities of the EU member states.
