FSAI recognise the important role of Creme

When the Irish government issued a recall in December 2008 of all Irish pork products dating back to 1st September 2008, it sent shockwaves through the agricultural industry, particularly the embattled pig production and processing sector.

The recall had the potential to destroy the Irish pork industry with the loss of millions of euro and countless jobs coming into the festive season.

Recently however, the European Commission praised the response of the Irish authorities to the crisis in December 2008. This view has been supported by the country's largest pork processor, Kerry Foods, who have suggested that the swift action taken by the FSAI will safeguard the international reputation of Ireland's food industry (see Just-Food, Ireland Food and Drink Report Q1 2009).

In turn, the FSAI has recognised the important role of Creme in minimising the impact on the industry and on consumer health.
