Key Responsibilities

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive food safety management system (FSMS) in compliance with FDA, USDA, FSMA, GFSI, HACCP, and other global food safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and customer food safety requirements, maintaining certifications (e.g., SQF, BRC, ISO 22000).
  • Monitor and assess emerging food safety risks, recalls, and industry trends, proactively implementing necessary controls.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, and certification bodies.

 

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) team.
  • Develop and execute a long-term food safety strategy that aligns with company growth and sustainability goals.
  • Partner with R&D, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure food safety is embedded in product development, sourcing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Drive a culture of food safety excellence across all levels of the organization.

 

Risk Management & Data Analytics

  • Oversee supplier and co-manufacturer food safety programs, including audits and risk assessments.
  • Leverage predictive analytics and data-driven insights to enhance food safety decision-making.
  • Utilize the Crème Global Platform to assess exposure, perform risk modeling, and improve food safety compliance.

 

Crisis Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain crisis management and recall response protocols.
  • Lead investigations into food safety incidents, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance food safety, efficiency, and innovation.

 

Reporting & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

 

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the CEO or COO, providing strategic oversight and updates on food safety performance.
  • Presents quarterly and annual food safety reports to the executive leadership team and board of directors.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Compliance teams to align food safety objectives with overall business goals.

 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

The CFSO will be evaluated based on:

  1. Regulatory Compliance & Audit Performance
    • Zero major non-conformances in third-party audits (e.g., FDA, USDA, GFSI, SQF, BRC).
    • 100% compliance with FSMA, HACCP, and other relevant regulations.
  2. Food Safety Incident Reduction
    • Reduction in product recalls, withdrawals, and consumer complaints due to food safety issues.
    • Improvement in corrective action closure rates and root cause resolution time.
  3. Supplier & Manufacturing Compliance
    • 100% of suppliers and co-manufacturers meeting food safety standards.
    • Annual risk assessment and audit completion rates for key suppliers.
  4. Risk Mitigation & Predictive Analytics Implementation
    • Effective use of the Crème Global Platform to assess risk and implement preventive measures.
    • Reduction in forecasted food safety risks through proactive data analysis.
  5. Team Performance & Training Completion
    • 100% food safety training completion rate for all employees.
    • Continuous improvement in employee food safety awareness and compliance scores.
  6. Crisis Management & Response Efficiency
    • Time to detect, respond to, and resolve food safety crises or contamination events.
    • Effective recall execution and communication with regulatory agencies when required.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Safety, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in food safety, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance in the food & beverage industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of FDA, USDA, FSMA, HACCP, GFSI (SQF/BRC), and international food safety regulations.
  • Experience with food safety risk assessment, predictive modeling, and data analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with the Creme Global Platform for data-driven risk assessment and compliance monitoring is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to drive cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
